Scholarships are given to deserving seniors from Coronado High School who will continue their education at an institute of higher learning. These teenagers have demonstrated integrity with regard to their education as well as a desire to help the community. The Friends of the Coronado Public Library like to recognize students who have contributed to the Friends over time with hard work and dedication. Thanks to the Seaman family and other donors, 3 scholarships were awarded in 2008 and 2009 for $1500 each. In 2010, 2 scholarships were given out at a value of $2500 each.
Wilf Seaman was the principal at Coronado High School for many years and also one of the founders of the Friends of the Coronado Public Library. He was a visionary man who saw potential in every student he met. He played an active role in many community organizations. He exemplified good ethics and values, which we hope to find in our scholarship recipients.
His wife Ruth Seaman still resides in Coronado and their children, Becky Geiss and Bill Seaman, are very active in the administration of this scholarship.
The 2010 scholarship recipients were Kimberly Kitchener and Kenneth Rue. Kimberly helps in Second Hand Prose on Sunday afternoons and will be headed to school back east. Kenneth has been a helper each year at the book fair for the past 4 years and will be attending some type of vocational training. We wish to thank them both for all their hard work and dedication to the library. Best of luck in all your future endeavors.
